The format
Chapter meetings follow a set format, and a high-level member hosts. If you have been to a Toastmasters meeting you will recognize the structure: the meeting is made of segments, and different members volunteer for each one.
The segments
Member introduction. One member gets to introduce himself to the group.
Book and training reviews. Members review a book chapter, or a part of the GIN training, and give the group their summary.
Etiquette and vocabulary. A short etiquette lesson and a vocabulary word.
Recognition. The group recognizes people who have gone to a new level or had a big win in life.
The talks run three to five minutes each, in front of the group. If you have never spoken to a room, this is where you learn to.
Signing up for next time
At the end, people volunteer for roles at the next meeting: who reads a book chapter and goes over it with the group, who gives the member introduction, who does the vocabulary word or the etiquette lesson.
The meeting after the meeting
This is my favorite part, always. After the formal ninety minutes there is typically a meeting after the meeting — hanging out on-site, or going to a restaurant or a bar and having a good time with each other. This is where the relationships get built.
If there is no chapter near you
There are virtual chapters you can attend over Zoom.
